 Interior and exterior design has rapidly changed in the past two centuries to address emerging issues including technological advancement. Designers have also witnessed a lot of training and specialization growth in the field. Over the time, it has developed an open and inviting view for the interior and exterior design as people have understood that the profession involves different roles in the society.

Interior and exterior design is a study of our relationship with the spaces in which we live, interact and experience. In the interior and exterior, Design plays a powerful role to make our life more comfortable, functional and beautiful.

We have introduced one year PG Diploma for ‘Sustainable and Creative Interior and Exterior Design’. In this one year PG Diploma, we guide students to broaden their perception for not only Interior Design but also for Exterior Design, which facilitate them to find creative design solutions for interior and exterior spaces and enhancing the quality of life. The course is so structured as to equip the students with an advanced concept of design mechanics and principles, from the most technical concepts to the most intuitive ones. Students pursuing this course will be taught the various aspects of Interior and Exterior Design with hands on practical activity, consisting of presentation, discussion and field visits, providing students with the expertise they need to enter in this competitive industry.

In this design oriented age, everyone wants unique and extraordinary designs in every aspects of their daily life. Designing is the core requirement for all these. Therefore we are focusing on to unfold their latent talent and develop understanding of human, space, emotion, technology and sociology. Today, Interior Designers work with Architects, Designers, Engineers, Craftsmen and Business & Home owners. To become a successful Interior and Exterior Designer, you need good skills to work within many disciplines like; Architecture; Graphic Design; Textile Design, Furniture Design, Lighting Design and Decorative Arts. To make students work efficiently in the industry, we have adopted multidisciplinary approach. Through the multidisciplinary approach, students will learn Fundamentals of Interior and Exterior Design, 2D and 3D Visualisation, Materials & Properties, Behavior and Space, Digital Design as well as get hands on practical experience to work on Project.

The Interior and Exterior Design course prepares students to pursue careers as Interior and Exterior Designer, Interior and Exterior Decorator, Set Designer, Store Window Designer, and as Freelancer Designer. It will give opportunity to work on designing interior and Exterior for the Houses, Restaurants, Hotels and Schools etc.

Assistant Professor – Mukhtiyar Hussein Shaikh earned a post-graduate degree in Industrial Design from the famed National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. He worked as an Industrial Designer for three years in the areas of designing home appliances, educational products and products related to schools. He has conducted design awareness programmes for industry and craft clusters. Before joining RKU; he worked with the National institute of Design for a couple of years.
